The Fall 2019 Edition of The ALI Reporter recognizes Hunton partner Lorelie S. Masters for her significant contributions to the new Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance (RLLI). The RLLI was approved by the American Law Institute (ALI) at its 2018 Annual Meeting and published in late September 2019. In 2010, Lorie was one of 40 attorneys invited to serve as an Adviser to the Restatement, and she was heavily involved throughout the life of the eight-year project.
As an Adviser to the RLLI, Lorie, a longtime practitioner representing policyholders and an author of two treatises on insurance coverage, worked alongside insurer-side practitioners, as well as judges, professors, in-house counsel, and insurance brokers to develop the new RLLI.
In ALI’s most recent newsletter, Lorie comments on various topics, including the importance of serving as an active participant on the RLLI project, the disagreements faced by the project participants and how they were addressed, and her views on whether courts will continue to cite to the RLLI.
