Looking for new ideas about what to post on your blog? Here’s a fun one. Go back to basics with the ABCs.
“The ABCs of _____” is a series of posts with titles that follow the letters of the alphabet, on the topic of your choice. So, for example, a personal injury attorney may start a series with a first post titled something like this: “The ABCs of Summer 2021 Injury Law: Automobile Accidents,” while the fourth could be “The ABCs of Summer 2021 Injury Law: Defamation Defense.”
These series are a great idea for a few reasons. Firstly, it keeps you accountable to posting consistently on your blog; you can’t leave the alphabet unfinished! As you set yourself up for this many more posts, try to establish a set frequency for your posting that you think you’ll be able to sustain.
And if the idea of setting yourself up for 26 future blog posts don’t worry; we’ve got answers for that too. When you find that you’re running out of news to cover on your topic or issues to dissect, you can consult our Resource Center that has an ongoing Blog Post Idea series, with ideas such as interviews, Week in Review posts and answering a question, all of which can easily be incorporated into an ABC series.
Furthermore, this kind of series gives you an opportunity to get creative and have some fun with your titles and content.
We were inspired to create this post by Covington and Burling, who did a great job executing this idea in their series “The ABCs of AJP.”
Great example by Covington and Burling
Every couple of days the firm’s Inside Energy and Environment blog will publish a post concerning a different aspect of the American Jobs Plan, and each subsequent post’s title starts with the next letter of the alphabet. So, for example, the series’ 25th post from July 9 starts with Y: “Yellow School Buses and Diesel Electrification.”, and the post before it was “X-Treme Weather and the Need for Climate Resiliency.”

And, if you’re looking for less of a long-term commitment with your posting, the ABCs strategy can still be applicable. Fox Rothschild had a strong example post from the early days of the pandemic that nails the execution.
HIPAA and COVID-19: ABCs for Working from Home gives a brief rundown of why virtual work merits brushing up on your HIPAA knowledge, and then goes into three key words (left) to remember and associate with the topic, each of which–surprise!–begin with A, B, and C, respectively.
Whichever direction you decide to go in, we can’t recommend this idea enough.
Routine is key to developing commitment to your blog, and what better way to set yourself up for a strong routine than committing to 26 future blog posts? We hope to see many more of these series in the LexBlog community soon.
