ComputerWorld.com reported that “As agentic AI systems evolve from assistants into decision-support tools, several organizations are exploring the concept of “AI shadow boards” to guide executive strategy and corporate governance.”  The March 17, 2026 report entitled ” Will AI Sit on the Board? Why CIOs Must Prepare for Agentic AI in Corporate Governance” (https://www.computerworld.com/video/4146382/will-ai-sit-on-the-board-why-cios-must-prepare-for-agentic-ai-in-corporate-governance.html) included “Today in Tech, host Keith Shaw speaks with Kevin Bocek, Senior Vice President for Innovation at CyberArk about how AI agents could influence board-level decisions.”

The discussion focuses on why companies are considering this shift, including the ability of AI to analyze large volumes of data, provide consistent recommendations, and improve transparency for shareholders.

At the same time, the risks are significant. Board-level AI would require access to highly sensitive financial and strategic information, raising concerns around identity security, privilege management, and accountability. Leaders must also address the challenges of governing non-deterministic systems that can take action rather than simply provide insights.

Bocek points to research from Gartner and Harvard Business Review that suggests AI-driven advisory models are moving quickly from theory to experimentation. For CIOs and CISOs, this could mean strengthening identity frameworks, implementing tighter controls around AI access, and piloting agentic AI use cases in a controlled and secure manner.

What do you think?
