A law firm anniversary is a great opportunity to showcase your firm’s history, strengthen relationships with clients and alumni, recognize your lawyers and staff and create content that supports your marketing and business development efforts. Whether your firm is celebrating its 25th, 50th, 100th or 150th anniversary, a milestone like this gives you a natural reason to reconnect with people and tell stories that might otherwise never be shared.
I’ve worked on law firm anniversary campaigns, and there’s so much more you can do than create a commemorative logo, publish a congratulatory LinkedIn post and host a party. Think about the photographs sitting in old firm archives, the longtime employees who have watched the organization evolve, the alumni who’ve gone on to interesting careers and the clients who’ve been part of the firm’s history. All of these people and materials can become part of a coordinated anniversary marketing campaign.
The key is to start planning early and think about the anniversary as a yearlong initiative that incorporates content marketing, public relations, client development, alumni relations, recruiting and employee engagement. You can create a campaign that celebrates where the firm has been while reinforcing its capabilities, culture and direction for the future.
Here are 10 law firm anniversary marketing ideas, along with a practical checklist to help you plan and execute your campaign.

A commemorative logo is a good place to start and can incorporate the firm’s anniversary into its existing visual identity. For example, a firm celebrating 150 years could create a special anniversary logo that appears on its website, LinkedIn company page, email signatures, client communications, event invitations, presentation materials and other marketing collateral throughout the year.
A campaign theme can help tie everything together and give the anniversary a consistent message. The theme might draw from the firm’s history, culture, client relationships, geographic roots or the industries it serves, connecting where the firm has been with where it’s going.
The firm’s website can also play an important role in the campaign. A dedicated anniversary landing page could bring together historical photographs, videos, firm milestones, employee stories and information about upcoming celebrations, while giving you a central place to direct people from LinkedIn posts, newsletters, invitations and media coverage.
There are SEO benefits here too. A descriptive page title such as “150 Years of [Firm Name]: Our History, People and Future,” along with information about the firm’s history, locations and practice areas, can help people find anniversary content when they’re searching for information about the firm.

A commemorative video is one of my favorite ways to celebrate a law firm anniversary because it brings the firm’s history to life and gives you content that can be used across multiple marketing channels.
One option is a short, energetic video using historical photographs, archival footage, quick interviews and memorable sound bites from founders or longtime lawyers. A TikTok-style approach with music, quick transitions and interesting visuals could take viewers through the firm’s evolution in 60 to 90 seconds.
For firms that want to do something more substantial, a longer documentary-style video could highlight significant cases, major transactions, office openings, practice expansions and the people who helped shape the firm. Interviews with retired partners, longtime staff members and alumni can add personal perspectives and stories that people may not already know.
I particularly like asking questions that get people talking about their experiences. What was the firm like when they joined? What was their first office like? What’s the biggest change they’ve witnessed? What are some of their favorite memories? A legal assistant who’s been with the firm for 40 years may have stories that even the managing partner hasn’t heard.
The main video can then be turned into shorter clips for LinkedIn, Instagram, the firm’s website, recruiting materials and internal communications. Adding captions and descriptive titles also makes the content more accessible and gives search engines and AI-powered search tools more context about what the videos cover.

One of the biggest opportunities with a major anniversary is the amount of content it can generate throughout the year. If your firm is celebrating 150 years, for example, there are many ways to build an entire campaign around that milestone rather than limiting the celebration to one date or event.
A “150 Years, 150 Stories” campaign could highlight significant matters, important moments in the firm’s history, notable alumni, longtime employees, client relationships and the evolution of different practice areas. Each story could become a LinkedIn post, website article, short video or newsletter feature.
Another idea is a weekly Throwback Thursday series featuring historical photographs, old firm announcements, newspaper clippings and interesting facts. You could share a photograph of the firm’s first office alongside a current image, highlight an important case from decades ago or show how the firm’s technology has evolved.
A “Then and Now” series could compare the firm at different points in its history, while a countdown to the anniversary could feature important milestones leading up to the celebration date.
There are opportunities for longer-form thought leadership as well. A firm with a longstanding healthcare practice, for example, could publish an article about how healthcare law has evolved over the past several decades, incorporating historical examples and perspectives from current practice leaders.
This type of content can also support the firm’s search visibility by addressing topics people may already be researching while demonstrating the depth of its experience. Historical claims and descriptions of client matters, of course, need to be accurate and appropriately approved before publication.
Thinking about the anniversary as a yearlong marketing opportunity also makes it easier to coordinate content, events and client engagement activities so they support one another instead of feeling like a series of unrelated anniversary activities.

A law firm anniversary is also an opportunity to recognize the communities that have supported the firm throughout its history. One idea I particularly like is connecting community service activities to the anniversary number.
For a 150th anniversary, for example, a “150 Acts of Service” campaign could encourage lawyers and staff to participate in volunteer activities, pro bono initiatives, charitable fundraising and community projects throughout the year.
That could include volunteer days at food banks, mentoring programs for students, fundraising initiatives for local nonprofit organizations and pro bono projects connected to the firm’s existing commitments.
Clients and alumni can also be included in some of these activities, creating another way to spend time together and strengthen relationships outside of traditional business development settings.
There are plenty of content opportunities within the campaign too. Photographs, short interviews and stories about the organizations involved can be shared throughout the year, and a section of the anniversary website could track the firm’s progress and highlight the people participating.
Another option is to feature one nonprofit organization each month, sharing more about its mission, the firm’s relationship with it and the work being done. This gives the organizations additional visibility while creating an ongoing content series for the firm.

A major anniversary deserves a celebration, but the event can also create a natural opportunity to reconnect with clients, alumni, referral sources and other important contacts.
For a 150th anniversary, a reception or gala could incorporate historical elements throughout the venue, including old photographs, newspaper articles, early firm announcements and other memorabilia. A digital timeline could show important milestones, while photographs from different decades could run throughout the evening.
A short commemorative video featuring current lawyers, alumni, clients and retired partners can add another personal element to the event.
The business development team can play an important role in developing the guest list and working with partners to identify clients, former clients, alumni and referral sources who would appreciate being included. The invitation itself gives partners a natural reason to reach out to people they may not have spoken with recently.
For firms with multiple offices, regional celebrations or coordinated events can give more people an opportunity to participate without everything having to center around one large event.
The event can also generate a lot of useful content. Photographs and video from the celebration can be used in follow-up emails, LinkedIn posts, internal newsletters and a recap article on the firm’s website.
Link to 6. Create a Law Firm Anniversary Podcast or Interview Series 6. Create a Law Firm Anniversary Podcast or Interview Series
An anniversary podcast can be an interesting way to explore the firm’s history while highlighting the people and relationships that have contributed to its success.
A limited series could feature conversations with longtime partners, alumni, clients and other people who have been part of the firm’s story. You could pair two lawyers who joined the firm decades apart to talk about how the practice of law has changed or speak with a former partner who went on to become a general counsel, judge or business leader.
Clients could also be part of these conversations, particularly when there is an opportunity to discuss how their industries and legal needs have changed over time. This helps connect the firm’s history to the work it’s doing today and makes the content relevant to audiences beyond the firm.
And this doesn’t necessarily have to be a podcast. The same concept could work as a written Q&A series or a collection of short video interviews. Recording interviews on video gives you even more options because one conversation can become a longer video, several short clips, a written article and social media content.
Publishing each episode or interview with a descriptive title, written summary and, where appropriate, a transcript also makes the material more accessible and gives search engines and AI-powered search tools text they can process.

A firm’s history is really the history of the people who have been part of it, which makes an anniversary a natural opportunity to recognize their contributions and share their stories.
A profile series could feature longtime lawyers, professional staff, retired partners and alumni reflecting on their experiences, favorite memories and how the firm has changed over the years. You could pair a senior partner with a junior associate for a conversation about how the practice of law has evolved or interview a longtime legal assistant who remembers an earlier period in the firm’s history.
A “My Favorite Firm Memory” series could work particularly well on LinkedIn, with employees and alumni sharing stories alongside photographs. Short videos could feature people talking about what the firm means to them, what they’re most proud of or which moments stand out from their time there.
Professional staff are an important part of these stories too. Featuring people in finance, technology, human resources, marketing and other departments, along with lawyers across different offices and generations, gives clients, recruits and alumni a broader sense of the people who have contributed to the firm’s success.
Link to 8. Use the Anniversary to Reconnect With Alumni and Former Clients 8. Use the Anniversary to Reconnect With Alumni and Former Clients
A firm’s anniversary gives you a natural reason to reconnect with people who have been part of its history but may have fallen out of regular contact. Former lawyers, staff, clients and referral sources have all contributed to the firm’s story, and involving them can make the celebration more meaningful while renewing relationships.
An alumni outreach campaign could invite former colleagues to share memories, contribute photographs or participate in anniversary activities. Alumni profiles on LinkedIn, a special reception or a commemorative edition of the alumni newsletter are all ways to bring former colleagues back into the firm’s community.
Alumni interviews could explore their experiences at the firm, where their careers have taken them and the relationships they’ve maintained over the years.
There is a client development opportunity here as well. Partners can identify former clients and referral sources who might appreciate a personal anniversary message or invitation. Where confidentiality permits, a partner might reconnect by recalling a memorable matter they worked on together or sharing something about how the firm has evolved since they last worked together.
The anniversary can also be a useful reason to update alumni and client contact information, identify new roles and organizations and reconnect the right partners with the right people. A follow-up plan can help ensure those renewed relationships continue after the anniversary year is over.
Link to 9. Create a Digital Time Capsule for the Firm’s Future 9. Create a Digital Time Capsule for the Firm’s Future
One fun way to celebrate the firm’s anniversary is with a digital time capsule that captures what the firm looks like today and what its people envision for the future.
Lawyers and staff across offices and departments could contribute photos, memories, predictions and messages that are saved and revisited at the firm’s next major anniversary. You could ask people what they think the legal profession will look like in 25 years, what advice they’d give to future lawyers at the firm or which traditions they hope will continue.
Firm leaders could write letters to their future successors, while associates and staff could share their hopes for the firm’s future. Alumni can be included as well so the collection reflects people who have helped shape the firm at different points in its history.
Some of those contributions can become content during the anniversary year. Predictions about AI, technology, client service and the future of law could make interesting LinkedIn posts or short videos, while personal stories and photographs could be featured in internal communications.
Then the complete collection can be saved for the firm’s next major anniversary. It would be fascinating to open it 25 years later and see which predictions came true, how much the firm changed and which traditions remained.

While an anniversary celebrates the firm’s history, it can also help tell the story of what the firm looks like today and where it’s going. New practice areas, geographic expansion, investments in technology and the next generation of firm leaders can all be part of the anniversary story.
A thought leadership series could explore how the industries the firm serves have changed over the years. For example, a firm with a longstanding private equity practice could publish an article about how the private equity market has evolved, the types of legal issues clients face today and how the firm’s capabilities have developed alongside them.
The content created during the anniversary year can also continue to be useful long after the celebration is over. Stories and examples can be incorporated into pitch materials, recruiting presentations, client communications and practice group marketing. A historical matter or longstanding client relationship can help demonstrate the firm’s experience, particularly when it’s connected to the work the firm is doing today.
The anniversary gives you a reason to uncover and tell these stories. With some planning, those stories can strengthen relationships, showcase the people behind the firm and support its marketing and business development efforts well beyond the anniversary year.

Link to One More Thing: Make the Content Work Beyond the Anniversary Year One More Thing: Make the Content Work Beyond the Anniversary Year
One of the smartest things you can do is plan for how the anniversary content will be used long after the celebration ends. A commemorative video can become part of your recruiting materials, historical photographs and employee interviews can enhance your website and alumni stories can support ongoing relationship building. Articles about how the firm’s practice areas and the industries it serves have evolved can also be incorporated into pitch materials, client communications and future marketing campaigns.
I’d also make sure someone is responsible for organizing and preserving everything collected during the campaign. Create a central archive of photographs, interview recordings, transcripts, approved stories and videos, with clear information about permissions and how the materials can be used. This will make it easier for future marketing teams to find and repurpose the content without having to start from scratch.
Your firm’s anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate its history, recognize the people who have contributed to its success and reconnect with clients, alumni and colleagues. Start planning early, involve people from across the organization and look for ways to make the campaign meaningful to the audiences you’re trying to reach.
With the right planning, you’ll come away with more than a successful anniversary celebration. You’ll have stronger relationships, a collection of stories worth preserving and valuable marketing and business development content that your firm can continue using for years to come.
